OAU is allegedly the only university in Nigeria without cultists – Nigerians react (Must see)

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal government owned and operated Nigerian university. The university is in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun state, Nigeria.
Cultism is one of the problems plaguing Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. Does it affect OAU? Some people do not think so. NAIJ.com gathered comments from Nigerians on Quora about the problem:
Damilola Oluwafemi said: “First of all, is there any public university in Nigeria totally free of cult activities? If yes, then i do not think OAU, instead I think Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). FUTA has almost zero cultism and cult related activities.”
John David said: “Private owned universities such as Babcock University, Covenant University, Joseph Ayo Babalola University and many others, are cult activities free because the management of the school doesn’t condone such actions.”
Oyesanya Mosopefoluwa who studies at Obafemi Awolowo University said: “I wouldn’t call Obafemi Awolowo University totally cult-free. While I can’t speak about the days before I became a student there, for the time I’ve been there (2015 – till date), there have been some rumours about cult activities taking place on campus grounds. I’ve also had a friend get harassed and have his valuables collected from him by some guys who claimed to be cultists.”
Ayodele Ibiyemi said: “Yes, Obafemi Awolowo University is cult free. That it is the only one is incorrect. The university has a long history of resisting oppression. However, in 1999 when some cultists killed the general secretary of the students union and others for haven’t shamed cultists publicly.”
Samuel Onyewuenyi who studied at Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) said: “When it comes to cult free universities in Nigeria, I can boldly say that the missionary once are in the front. E.g Madonna, covenant, etc.
“And that’s because of their system of administration (those schools are managed like secondary schools) I can’t vouch for any government university.”
Emmanuel Femi, a postgraduate student of computer science & artificial intelligence at Olabisi Onabanjo University said: “No Nigeria university is cult free and I don’t believe there will ever be one.”
